Labette Health's Occupational Therapy(OT)
Department works with those, who because of physical,
developmental, social or emotional problems, need special
assistance to lead independent, productive and satisfying
lives. Occupational therapy involves the therapeutic
use of self-care, work and play activities to increase:
- Independent function
- Enhance development
- Prevent disability
The occupational therapist often adapt
a clients task or environment to achieve their maximum
independence and improve quality of life. Occupational
Therapy provides treatment in a variety of environments
including:
- On an outpatient basis
- At home
- As an inpatient in acute care
- In a skilled nursing facility
Occupational Therapy provides treatment
for people with upper extremity dysfunction or hand injuries.
Carpal tunnel syndrome, repetitive strain injury and tendon
repairs often require custom splinting for the wrist and
hand to allow healing and functional return.
Specific Areas of Treatment Include
- Activities of daily living: eating,
homemaking, dressing, working skills, use of adaptive
equipment, hygiene
- Upper Extremity Function: strengthening,
coordination, range of motion, splinting, and other modalities
as needed.
- Vision, cognitive perceptual tasks,
writing, judgement and reading.
