DEMIE  AHLQUIST
PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT

When she's not at work, Demie Ahlquist can be found with a big smile on her face enjoying the outdoors sometimes swimming, fly fishing, or in the garden darting among the landscaping she's designed. At work  as  a physician's assistant, she's found darting around the Erie Medical Clinic, one of the Labette Health outreach facilities. She's still easy to recognize because of her friendly warm smile. That's because Demie really loves what she does at work, too. It was a positive personal experience that made Demie decide to pursue a medical career. And Labette Health helped with the tuition.

"In 1998 I was treated by a mid level practitioner and it was a very positive experience. The practitioner was very competent, spent adequate time with me, and made me feel at ease.  I was impressed to the point that I decided to pursue a career as a physician assistant."

Providing primary care close to home in small, rural communities is a priority for Labette Health.  Knowing that health care professionals are not only nearby but also have the full backup of an advanced level,  total medical facility when needed is a vital component of the advantages of living in Southeast Kansas.

"Working in this clinic gives me the opportunity to be closer to my family and allows me the chance to be involved with my community. I enjoy my patients as well as the working relationship that I have with my fellow coworkers at Labette Health. It was easy to decide to become a member of the Labette Health team because I was aware of their outstanding reputation, teamwork, state-of-the-art facilities, organization and outstanding dedication to all patients."
