CARDIAC REHABILITATION
Neil Grove
is a collector. He likes collecting souvenirs including hat
pins, magnets, and key chains from vacation trips as well
as items representing motorcycles and old cars. Neil also
likes going to car shows, and puttering around in his shop
which his wife laughingly calls the "museum" for
his collection of trinkets. His favorite car is the '40 Ford
Convertible and his favorite gal is Rita, his wife of 40
years.
Having heart surgery then going to
cardiac rehab three times a week definitely did not rank among
Neil's favorites this year, but he rated being in the good hands
of the Labette Health staff during that time as outstanding.
A couple of years ago while recovering from knee surgery, Neil
suffered a heart attack. His Labette Health cardiologist found
that he had a defective aortic valve – a congenital condition
which had not been previously detected. In April of this year,
he had open heart surgery to correct the problem, then entered
the cardiac rehabilitation program at Labette Health to get his
strength back.
"It really helps you. They make
you do what you need to do. I might gripe a little -- going three
times a week can get old -- but I really like them."
Neil recommends the caring staff members
that run the Labette Health rehabilitation program and he's happy
that he can still drive to attend the car shows he loves. But
he said he wouldn't love having to drive to get to rehabilitation
sessions.
"I would hate to have to drive
to Pittsburg or Joplin for my rehabilitation program. I'm so
glad this is in Parsons. I'm glad they have such a nice facility
here. My wife calls me her 'bionic man'." |
