DONNA WOOD
Director, Home Health

Though her involvement wasn't originally singled out as a career focus, for more than 32 years, beginning as a teenager, being part of the Labette Health team has been a central part of Donna Wood's life. She first volunteered as a candy striper during high school, then became increasingly involved in the medical profession. Now she has become the director of Home Health as well as the Director of the Webster In Patient Rehabilitation Unit. Labette Health offers continuing career opportunities to all their employees, and although Donna wasn't seeking another job at the time the opportunity presented itself, her advancement was a logical progression following a series of department experiences and accomplishments.

"I really wasn't looking for another job...but after working as a nurse with chemotherapy patients on 2 south at Labette Health, I was asked to be the interim Nurse Manager for Home Care...after 6 months, I was approached to stay on as the Home Care Director. I enjoy interacting with people and patients. I like challenges and in this capacity, every day, I face different hurdles, including staying current with medicare rules and regulations, staying abreast of changing patient conditions, especially the complicated cases, managing day to day operations, and trying to keep current with my managerial duties."

In the beginning, Donna choose to be at Labette Health because even then, in the '70s, Labette Health was known as one of the best hospitals in the area. When her brother was seriously injured in a car accident in 1973 she knew she'd want to stay in the area so she could be close to her St. Paul home and assist her parents with his care. She still enjoys the time she gets to spend with her family and stays busy with their activities -- especially now with the wonderful addition of granddaughters. But she chose to stay with Labette Health because of their consistent commitment to provide both patients and staff with quality treatment and access to state-of-the-art technology.

"Many good people work at Labette Health and much quality care is given. Labette Health is a friendly and clean place to work."
