MAKENZIE and ALLY
PEDIATRIC PATIENTS
Makenzie and sister Ally are the
picture of the typical, vibrant, all-American girls, with busy
schedules and, from all appearances, seem to have everything
going their way. They're good students whose lives are
a swirl of sports and academic activities which include playing
basketball, cheerleading and being in the school play. And
yet, they still manage to find plenty of time to ride the golf
cart, hang out with friends, listen to music, play computer
games, and, especially, to talk on their cell phones. However,
there is one major life-complication their mother, Jennifer,
explained.
"Both girls have Cystic Fibrosis. Makenzie
was born at Labette Health where they discovered she had a plugged
intestine. Her pediatrician shipped her to St. Francis
Hospital in Tulsa, OK, where 13 inches of her small intestine
was removed. When Ally was born, she was monitored very
closely, but thankfully, she did not suffer any complications
at birth. We now receive essential services at Labette Health
from many different areas – radiology, lab, ER, 2-North,
and surgery."
Jennifer and her husband, Mike, are
thankful that they have been able to rely on such a quality local
facility where their girls have always been able to get excellent
care. Makenzie, 15, and Ally, 11, appreciate the quality
staff as well as the convenience of getting vital treatment at
Labette Health.
"Our pediatrician, Dr. Dixit,
is very knowledgeable and comfortable with our CF care, and he
also does a great job of working with our specialists at Children's
Mercy in Kansas City, MO. Everyone, from the lab techs to
the nurses, is very gentle with us. We feel very fortunate
to have Labette Health in Parsons. We get a lot of our care
here, at home, which allows us to miss less school and to have
more time to be with our friends. We don't like having CF,
but having the Labette Health doctors and staff who take such great
care of us makes it a little easier."
