ROBIN
BAYLESS
BREAST CANCER SURVIVOR
With a family history
of the disease, Robin Bayless knew that cancer would probably
catch up with her sooner or later. But she really did not
expect the "later" to hit so soon, at the young
age of 38.
"I was diagnosed with breast cancer
in November of 2003. My husband was the one who told me. I
was quite surprised because I have a history of developing
benign cysts throughout my body and I expected this biopsy
to have the same result."
Robin is thankful for the early detection of
her cancer by the professionals at Labette Health. All her tests,
including the biopsy, were performed at Labette Health. She had
a lumpectomy in Joplin, radiation and chemotherapy in Pittsburg,
and she was also able to return to Parsons for some treatments.
Having access to treatment at home allowed her to miss less time
at work and to have more time for her many other activities.
Being active has always been an important part
of Robin's life. In addition to her full time job working for
the University of Kansas Center on Developmental Disabilities,
she and her husband, Brad, garden and have done many remodeling
projects together, including roofing, siding, and adding a room
with a 1/2 bath to their home. |
