ANNETTE ELSEN,
R.N.
THE CANCER CENTER OF KANSAS
When opportunity knocked, Annette Elsen was
able to open the door to her future. She was already working
at Labette Health but with this opportunity she received a
gift that keeps on giving – both to her and to many patients
whose care she helps provide. Annette began a working interest
in a nursing career when she was employed by Labette Health
eight years ago. Now she is a Registered Nurse, thanks to a
lot of encouragement and help from Labette Health and auxiliary
friends, whose assistance helped her attain that degree by
providing scholarships to cover tuition costs.
"The people who work here are truly a godsend! The
compassion, friendship and loyalty make Labette Health a true
part of my heart."
With a family history of cancer, Annette was
interested in learning more about the disease as well as helping
others who had it. She has worked in The Cancer Center of Kansas
located at Labette Health for the last year. "The most enjoyable
part of my job is working with these patients. I love being
able to give them hope, help educate them about cancer, give
them a smile and an encouraging hug."
Annette chose to start working at Labette Health
because the facility offered such great opportunities for a local
girl who wanted to stay in this area. Among her list of
favorite activities and hobbies she includes art, playing with
her four year old daughter, spending time with her 11 year old
nephew, and also, her nursing career.
"I have grown personally, spiritually
and all around, improved my life with a career in nursing. I'm
thankful to Labette Health for empowering me with education, friends
and family love. I hope the quality of care I give will shine
every day to give back to those who have given me everything I
have today – happiness, hope and faith."
