Visiting with family and friends in the hospital can help speed a patient's recovery and make the hospital stay more pleasant.

Patient Pickup and Drop Off
All patients coming to the hospital for admission, testing or outpatient surgery should enter or be dropped off at the main entrance at the front of the hospital.

Visiting Hours

When patients have large groups of visitors, it becomes more difficult for us to provide appropriate care, particularly in an emergency. To ensure that our patients get adequate rest, ensure patient privacy and reduce the spread of communicable diseases, only two visitors at a time will be permitted in patients' rooms.

Regular Patient Rooms
General visiting hours at Labette Health are 7:00 am - 8:30 p.m. daily. Several units have special visiting hours:

Intensive Care Unit
Because of the critical nature of the patient's illness, immediate family will be permitted 30 minute visits of two family members at a time 8:30 am - Noon - 5:30 pm and 8:30 pm subject to patient's condition. Thank you for your cooperation.

Patient Information
Friends and relatives can obtain patient's room numbers at the information desk or the switchboard (both located on the first floor) unless otherwise requested by the patient. Information about a patients condition can only be obtained from the patient's physician.

What To Bring To The Hospital (And What Not To Bring)
You will need only a minimum of personal items, such as bathrobe, bedroom slippers, sleeping apparel and toiletries. Maternity patients should also bring an outfit for baby's trip home in a car seat.

Please bring your insurance card(s) and drivers license for photographic identification.

Be sure to bring your doctor's written orders admitting you to the hospital, as well as a list of any medications you are currently taking for your doctor to review.

All jewelry and money, except for small change for miscellaneous purchases, should be left at home. The Hospital cannot be responsible for looking after items to prevent damage, or for the loss of money, jewelry or other items left in your room. If you wish to have valuables placed in the Hospital safe, the staff will help you make the necessary arrangements.

Advance Directives
An Advance Directive is a legal document that states your personal wishes regarding your health care should you suddenly become unable to make decisions for yourself. This documentation can take the form of a Living Will, Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care, Health Care Agent, or Organ Donation. It is very important that your family, physician, and the Hospital be made aware of your desires for health care. In the event you do not have an Advanced Directive and would like more information, call Patient Registration/Admitting at (620)820-5255.

Continuum Management / Discharge Planning
Discharge planners are available to assist you and your family in making post-hospital plans during your hospital stay. The discharge planner will assess your needs, determine your insurance coverage, and coordinate any services you will need when you leave the Hospital. Post-hospital services can include home care assistance, placement, placement in a skilled nursing facility rehabilitation, or participation in the Hospice program.
