The
Labette Health Auxiliary began service on June 1, 1963
with approximately 45 active members. The active membership
is now approximately 70, donating approximately 20,000
hours of service per year.
Some of many services provided by the
Auxiliary include two reception desks, gift shop and vending
machines, pharmacy, coffee cart, Cardiac/Rehab, Patient
mail delivery, departmental mail delivery, knitted baby
caps, clerical, etc.
In 1992, the auxiliary awarded $500 to
it's first scholarship recipient. Today, over $75,000 has
been given towards scholarships to area students.
Throughout the year, the auxiliary holds
special events or fundraisers. Some of those include an
annual jewelry sale, 3-4 book fairs per year, drawings,
etc. All monies received from fundraisers, gift shop and
vending machines is donated to the hospital to be used
towards equipment. To date, the auxiliary has donated over
$432,000.
Every year since 1991, the Auxiliary has
received the Gold Award of Excellence from the Kansas Hospital
Association with the exception of one Silver Award.
